About Shakra
The Swiss Hard Rock band SHAKRA was founded in 1995. The band plays hard rock and is often compared to the Swiss band Krokus. The name SHAKRA comes from chakra, an esoteric Asian teaching that describes the seven centres of the body through which energy flows. The name was chosen not for esoteric reasons, but rather because it was short, pronounceable, punchy and didn't sound like all the other band names.
The original line-up gained its first stage experience as early as 1990, back then still under their old band name “Ruckus”. Four years later the hard rockers from the Emmental were on stage as the support act for Krokus, Gotthard. From 1995 the band called itself SHAKRA and fully lived up to its reputation as a compelling live band. Straightforward, no-frills hard rock soon became the band's trademark.
Two years later SHAKRA signed a worldwide production and distribution deal with the label Point Music. The self-titled debut album SHAKRA was released in 1998, produced in-house (as were the subsequent releases) by guitarist Thom Blunier. The second album, Moving Force, followed in 1999. The first live CD, The Live Side, was recorded during a tour with Uriah Heep.
